About the course
The Qur’an is not merely a collection of separate verses and teachings. Each Surah possesses an interconnected structure through which its theological, philosophical, spiritual and practical meanings unfold.
This monthly online course introduces participants to a systematic approach to discovering this deeper coherence of the Divine Word.
Taught by Dr Seyed Salman Safavi, the course is based on his pioneering Interpretive Semantic Structure methodology of Qur’anic interpretation. Rather than studying verses in isolation, this approach examines each Surah as an integrated semantic whole.
Participants will learn to identify its structural map, thematic sections, key concepts, semantic relationships, central message, and the relationship between its opening and conclusion.
The course brings structural and semantic analysis into dialogue with the rich intellectual heritage of Islam. Qur’anic passages are explored through classical and contemporary exegesis, Islamic philosophy, theology and mysticism, enabling participants to appreciate the multidimensional character of Qur’anic meaning.
A central aim of the course is to connect interpretation with life. The Qur’an is approached not only as a sacred text to be understood intellectually, but as a source of guidance for contemporary human life. Each Surah is therefore considered in relation to questions of spirituality, ethics, self-development, human relationships and the challenges of living meaningfully in the contemporary world.
